Narayanpur (Chhattisgarh) [India], At least seven Naxalites were killed in an encounter with District Reserve Group (DRG) troops at the inter-district border of Narayanpur, Dantewada and Kondagaon, a senior police officer said.
Narayanpur Superintendent of Police Prabhat Kumar said, "Weapons have been recovered. The operation is underway."
He said that bodies of seven Naxalites have been recovered from the encounter site.
Three Narayanpur DRG soldiers who were injured in the encounter on Friday night were airlifted to the hospital from Gobel area of East Bastar division.Police said a joint team of DRG from Narayanpur, Kondagaon, Dantewada and Jagdalpur along with 45th battalion of ITBP was on an anti-Maoist operation in Abujhmad area when the Maoists opened fire on the forces and the attack was swiftly retaliated to.
Earlier on June 2, Naxalites had set fire to a mobile tower in Durmi village of Narayanpur district.
On May 25, two Naxalites were killed in an encounter with security forces in the forests of Jappemarka and Kamkanar in Bijapur.
Naxalism in Chhattisgarh remains a constant challenge for both the state and central governments.
The dense forests and difficult terrain of the region have provided a conducive environment for Naxalite groups to establish their base and operate in the state.
Earlier, in May, in an exclusive interview with ANI, Union Home Minister Amit Shah had said that the government has taken decisive steps to deal with Naxalism and the country will be free from the problem in the next two to three years.
Shah said the efforts made by the BJP-led government have taken welfare schemes to tribal areas which were deprived of them.He said that Jharkhand, Bihar, Telangana, Odisha, Andhra Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra are completely free from Naxalism and the problem persists in three or four districts of Chhattisgarh.
“I think the country will be completely free from Naxal problem in the next 2-3 years. After BJP government came to power in Chhattisgarh, within just 4.5 months 112 Naxalites have been killed, around 375 surrendered And 153 have surrendered." Arrested...
