Bijapur (Chhattisgarh) [India], Paramilitary forces deployed in the region built a cable car on a river as a sign of their commitment to the society, reducing challenges to the lives of people residing in the affected Bijapur district of Chhattisgarh for the insurgency.

"Villagers are smoothly using this ropeway to cross the river," said Bastar Range Inspector General of Police (IG) Sundarraj P.

In the construction of the ropeway, CRPF and ITBP played a vital role, Sundarraj noted.

In the absence of a bridge and cable car, villagers used small boats as the only option to cross the river and sometimes suffered fatal accidents.

Thanking the state government for constructing the ropeway, the villagers said that earlier they had to face serious problems due to river flooding and now the situation is changing significantly. Earlier, small boats were the only option to cross the river during monsoon, and it was also risky, but now everything is fine.

After the BJP returned to power in Chhattisgarh six months ago, the government has been firmly fighting the Naxal menace.

Furthermore, under the tight security of paramilitary forces, a bridge over the Chintavagu River will also be completed soon which will play an important role in the ongoing anti-naxal operations. Officials say the bridge will provide security personnel in the battle against Naxalism.

"The construction of the bridge has started and it takes about one and a half to two years to complete such a huge structure. To avoid the problem faced by the population near Pamed and nearby areas, CRPF and ITBP have established a ropeway parallel to the bridge under construction," said Bastar Range Inspector General of Police (IG) Sundarraj P.

As the construction of the bridge over the Chintavagu river continues, security personnel have installed a cable car on the river as a temporary measure, giving relief to residents of Pamed, one of the last villages in Chhattisgarh, and adjoining areas of the district.

Highlighting the importance of the bridge, the IG said that in the absence of a bridge over the Chintavagu river, Pamed, which is the last village of Chhattisgarh in Bijapur, remains deprived of connectivity from the block and district headquarters.

Villagers and government workers have to travel an additional 200 kilometers (traveling from Telangana) to reach Bijapur due to the river and lack of a bridge. Keeping in mind the problems faced by the people, the state government decided to build the bridge.

During the construction exercise, the Naxals posed serious challenges and also attacked the security forces camps (set up on both sides of the river).

In January this year, Naxals attacked the Dharmavaram camp, the IG said.

With camps being established on both sides of the river, work on the bridge is being carried out rapidly and the construction will be completed by the end of July this year, Bastar Range IG said.

The IG further informed that with the construction of the bridge, the people of Pamed could easily reach their block headquarters at Awapalli and their district headquarters at Bijapur. Furthermore, the bridge will facilitate easy access of people to facilities such as education, health and others. The existence of the bridge will have a positive impact on the population of Pamed and adjacent areas.

Till now, security personnel have to face the threat of ambushes and IED blasts while carrying out anti-naxal operations in the absence of a bridge, the IG recalled.
