Raipur: Police have announced a cash reward of Rs 5 lakh and jobs to persons providing information leading to the arrest or killing of Naxalites in Chhattisgarh's Kabirdham district, a senior officer said on Tuesday.

Pamphlets declaring "Give information and get reward" were distributed in Naxal-affected villages of the district bordering Madhya Pradesh.

"Anyone who helps in the arrest of Naxalites or provides input to kill them in encounters will be given a cash reward of Rs 5 lakh and a job in the police force. Persons who help in surrender will also be given a cash reward." Maoists,” the leaflet said.Kabirdham Superintendent of Police (SP) Abhishek Pallav said, "We have distributed pamphlets and pasted posters of our new proposal in Maoist-affected villages in the last two days. We have also sent messages on WhatsApp to mobile phone users in these villages." ,

He said that villagers will get an immediate cash reward of Rs 5 lakh for providing information leading to the arrest or killing of Maoists and this amount will be in addition to the reward announced by the state or central government on any Naxalite.

He said, “Informants will also be recruited as constables in the district police without any examination. However, the person concerned must satisfy the educational and physical standards."

Pallav said that as anti-insurgency operations have intensified in the Basta area, the Naxalites from there may try to shift to their new base on the Chhattisgarh-Madhya Pradesh border, where they do not have widespread support.

He said that this offer will help the police in gathering intelligence.

“The surrender rehabilitation policy already has a provision for giving government jobs to persons giving information about the arrest or killing of Naxalites, but for the first time it has been announced openly so that the villagers are aware and benefit from it.” He added.According to the police, the Naxalites are attempting to establish their new hideout in the tri-junction forest of Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh (MMC zone) – which includes parts of Balaghat (Madhya Pradesh), Gondia (Maharashtra) Rajnandgaon, Mungeli and Are included. Kabirdham district (Chhattisgarh) from 2017-18.

The Maoists' "expansion platoons" are looking to expand their activities in the MM zone, and are part of the Maoists' Kanha-Bhoramdev division (which covers Chhattisgarh's Kabirdham and parts of Madhya Pradesh's Mandla, Balaghat and Dindor districts). Platoons are active in Kabirdham. , They said.

Pallav said, in the last five years, three Naxalites have been killed in encounters with police and six have surrendered in Kabirdham. There are about 41 villages in Kabirdham on the interstate border, where movement of Naxalites has been reported in the last two years. Of these, 16 have been identified as most affected, he said.

"So far, we have sent messages about the new proposal for information on Naxalite activities to 35,000 mobile phone numbers in these villages, and 1 lakh mobile phone users will be covered in the next one week," the SP said.

The target is 100 per cent penetration in the 16 villages identified as most affected, he said, adding that police will also go door-to-door to verify whether they have received information about the proposal.

He said, “In the last month, three new police camps have been set up in the district on the interstate border and three more will be set up soon. The effort is to seal the border to stop the movement of Naxalites."

The SP said the announcement of reward and setting up of camps would create awareness among the people about the consequences of giving aid to Naxalites and help the administration take government welfare schemes to villages.

The Naxal-affected villages in the district were largely inhabited by the Beg tribe, a Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Group (PVTG). He said that efforts will be made to ensure that the benefits of the Central Government's Janman schemes for tribals reach these areas.
