Raipur, Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Dev Sai on Thursday stressed the need to encourage the cultivation of aromatic and fine rice besides promoting soybean, oil palm and flower cultivation in the state.

Reviewing the functioning of the agriculture and horticulture departments, he said that 'centres of excellence' would be set up to promote various crops.

Sai, who said Chhattisgarh has around 200 varieties of aromatic rice which have good demand in the market, asked officials to make these varieties available to farmers so that they can also be exported.

Mango, litchi, jackfruit are produced on a large scale in Jashpur district of Chhattisgarh, while production of tea has also started, he said, adding that processing units should be set up for these.

The CM said that flower farming should be promoted in the state, while a project should be prepared at the state level to promote the cultivation of soybean, apple, palm oil and tea.

Officials said that under the 'Agri Stack' programme, the work of SAI e-Girdawari will start soon in Mahasamund, Dhamtari and Kabirdham districts.

"In this, a digital database of farmers and land maps will be prepared. Geo-referencing of farmers' registry and maps will be done. Along with this, GIS digital crop survey work will be done through a mobile app. “Girdawari work will become easier and its data will also be immediately available for implementation of schemes,” said an official.
