Raipur, Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Dev Sai on Friday flagged off 15 hi-tech interceptors and said preventing road accidents is one of the top priorities of his government.

SAI said the aim was to make people aware about traffic rules and regulations rather than just collecting fines from offenders.

A government official said, these interceptors include radar gun to detect speeding, breathalyzer to detect drunk driving, surveillance cameras for 360 degree surveillance, light intensity measuring device for headlight beam, glass Transparency equipment and decibel meter to check noise pollution.

“Preventing road accidents is one of our top priorities and we are working in this direction by making the traffic system hi-tech. Compliance with traffic rules while driving guarantees safe travel. Road safety is a collective responsibility because every year Thousands of people lose their lives." Road accidents happen while many people become permanently disabled,'' CM Sai said.

SAI said that this issue can be solved with the cooperation of all sections of the society and these interceptors will prove to be effective in preventing road accidents.

The official said 15 interceptors will be deployed in Raipur, Balodabazar, Mahasamund, Dhamtari, Durg, Bemetara, Rajnandgaon, Kabirdham, Bilaspur, Korba, Janjgir-Champa, Raigarh, Surguja, Jagdalpur and Kanker districts.

The official said that these vehicles have been purchased from the Road Safety Fund on the recommendation of the State Level Road Safety Fund Management Committee.
