London [United Kingdom], Chelsea announced on Saturday the signing of youngster Omari Kellyman from Aston Villa on a six-year contract with the option to extend it for a further year.

Chelsea issued an official statement to announce the signing of Kellyman and confirmed that the young attacking midfielder will join his new team-mates next month.

"Chelsea are pleased to confirm the signing of Omari Kellyman from Aston Villa. The 18-year-old has signed a six-year contract with the Blues, which includes the option of a further year, and will join his new team-mates during preseason next month," Chelsea said in a statement.

The 18-year-old plays as an attacking midfielder and began his career at Derby County. He spent ten years at the club before moving to Aston Villa in 2022.

After signing for Chelsea, Kellyman expressed his joy. "It's fantastic to be here as a Chelsea player. It's a huge club with an incredible history, so it's great to join. It's a dream come true, for sure. I'm excited to have put on the shirt and be able to get started."

The youngster was part of Villa's pre-season tour of the United States last summer. He made his first-team debut in August 2023 during Aston Villa's 3–0 Europa Conference League victory over Hibernian.

Over the course of the season, Kellyman made five further appearances for Aston Villa last season. In his five appearances, he also tried his hand at Premier League football after playing against Manchester City and Crystal Palace.

Still, at the age of 18, Kellyman is confident in his abilities and looks to make a mark on the London team for years to come.

"I think one of my key characteristics is my confidence. The more confident I feel, the more successful I have been," he said.

"Whether it's going into new environments and meeting new people or on a football field, showing people what I can do and what I am, I think my confidence has helped me be more successful," he added.

Chelsea will begin their Premier League campaign by hosting defending champion Manchester City on August 18.
