Dubai [UAE]: Sri Lanka's star batsman Chamari Athapaththu has joined the pair of England (Sophie Ecclestone) and Scotland (Katharine Bryce) as nominees for the ICC Women's Player of the Month for May 2024.

Chamari Athapaththu: Sri Lanka's leading run-scorer in both white-ball formats had won the Women's Player of the Month award last September and is in line to win the honor once again.

Her nomination comes on the back of her stellar performance in the ICC Women's T20 World Cup Qualifier 2024, where she was the leading run-scorer. After a relatively indifferent start to the tournament, she came into her form towards the end of the competition and scored a brilliant century in the final to lead Sri Lanka to the title.

In his four matches during the month, Athapaththu scored 151 runs at an average of 37.75.She was equally impressive with the ball, taking six wickets at just 9.16 runs per wicket.

Sophie Ecclestone: Like Athapaththu, Ecclestone is in line to win the honor for the second time, having previously won the Women's Player of the Month award in June 2021.

She was England's star performer in the recently concluded T20I and ODI series against Pakistan. He scored 28 runs in the three-match T20 series and took five wickets at an average of just 9.4 to help England win the series 3–0.

After this, he also played an important role in England's 2-0 victory in the ODI.His six wickets in two matches came at an average of just 6.83.

Katherine Bryce: Katherine Bryce was at number opposite to Athapaththu during the Qualifier tournament and despite not featuring in the final, she helped her team make it to the Women's T20 World Cup with her exceptional leadership and performance on the field.

Bryce led from the front in his team's final group game against Thailand and scored a positive score of 63* off 58, with nine fours to his name. This helped Scotland win the match by six wickets.

But his main contribution came in the semi-final against Ireland.His all-round efforts helped Scotland defeat their local rivals and qualify for the T20 World Cup. He took 4/8 in Ireland's innings and restricted the European team to 110/9. After this she came at number three and ensured easy chase of the target by scoring unbeaten 35*.
