A central team headed by Abhijit Sinha, joint secretary in the home ministry, is currently visiting the northeastern state to assess the loss of lives and damage to properties and crops.

Sapdanga, who also holds the home portfolio, said during a meeting with the inter-ministerial central team that the natural disaster took the lives of 34 people and caused significant damage to public and private property.

The Minister told them that rehabilitation and repairs would require a lot of financial assistance, with a minimum amount of Rs 237.6 crore estimated to fully meet the reconstruction requirements after Cyclone Remal.

Sapdanga apprised the Central team about the devastating impacts of Cyclone Remal on the state's roads, water supply, power and other critical state infrastructure as well as the damage caused to ongoing projects.

He expressed sadness at the extent of damage caused by the disaster and thanked the Central Team for their presence and willingness to assess the damage on location.
