New Delhi: In a major boost to the fisheries sector, Union Minister Rajiv Ranjan Singh is scheduled to inaugurate over 125 projects at the Fisheries Summer Meet to be held in Madurai, Tamil Nadu on Friday, according to ministry officials.

These initiatives, sanctioned under the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY), represent a total investment of more than Rs 100 crore.

Ministry officials said the diverse initiatives include fish retail kiosks, prawn hatcheries, brood banks, ornamental fish units, biofloc units, fish feed mills and fish value-added enterprises.

PMMSY is a flagship program of the Center aimed at promoting sustainable development in the fisheries sector. Although details of specific financial support were not disclosed, the scheme is expected to significantly boost local businesses and increase the country's fisheries production.

The event will also see Singh distributing grants to 12 winners of the inaugural Fisheries Startup Grand Challenge organized by the ministry.

The minister will also interact with beneficiaries who have received central funds for their projects.

The Fisheries Summer Meeting serves as a platform for interaction between the Center and States, showcasing the contributions of stakeholders in the fisheries and aquaculture sectors. It also aims to create awareness about various initiatives of the Central Government.
