As per the contract delivery schedule, HAL will supply 30 aero-engines per year. According to the ministry, the supply of all 240 engines will be completed over a period of next eight years.

HAL plans to seek support from the country's defense manufacturing ecosystem, including MSMEs and public and private industries, to manufacture these aero engines.

By the end of the delivery programme, HAL will increase the indigenization content to 63 per cent to achieve an average of over 54 per cent.

The ministry said this will also help in increasing indigenous content of aero-engine repair and overhaul works.

Earlier this month, the Cabinet Committee on Security chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi had approved the proposal to purchase 240 aero engines.

According to the Defense Ministry, the delivery of these aero-engines will begin after a year and will be completed over a period of eight years.
