New Delhi, Union Minister Rajiv Ranjan Singh on Friday virtually inaugurated 321 projects at the Fisheries Summer Meet held in Madurai, Tamil Nadu.

These initiatives, approved under the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY), represent a total investment of Rs 114 crore, an official statement said.

The projects covering 19 states and union territories include fish retail kiosks, prawn hatcheries, brood banks, ornamental fish units, biofloc units, fish feed mills and fish value added enterprises.

PMMSY is a flagship program of the Center aimed at promoting sustainable development in the fisheries sector.

Although details of specific financial support were not disclosed, the scheme is expected to significantly boost local businesses and increase the country's fisheries production.

The Minister also distributed Farmer Credit Cards, presented PMMSY Achievement Award letters to the beneficiaries and felicitated Fish Farmer Producer Organizations (FFPOs) incorporated on Open Network Digital Commerce (ONDC).

Collaboration with ONDC has provided several benefits for FFPOs such as reduction in transaction costs, increased market access, improved transparency, enhanced competition and competitiveness, innovation and employment generation.

The event was attended by Union Ministers of State for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying, SP Singh Baghel and George Kurien, along with Tamil Nadu Fisheries Minister Anita R Radhakrishnan.
