The scale and level of celebration of IDY has increased every year since June 21 was recognized as "International Yoga Day".

On the occasion of the 9th IDY 2023, Prime Minister Narendra Modi led the celebrations at the United Nations Headquarters, which was attended by representatives of 135 countries.

A Guinness World Record was created with 135 countries participating in the Yoga Utsav. The event was also celebrated on a large scale with new initiatives.

The estimated participation in IDY 2023 was 23.4 crores.

As IDY 2024 approaches, the media units of the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting are planning to organize various program activities to create awareness about the benefits of yoga practice as well as the Common Yoga Protocol (CYP). Preparations have started.

Major activities have been planned by various media units including Press Information Bureau, Prasar Bharati, New Media Wing and others.

Public service broadcaster, Prasar Bharati will broadcast and telecast various programs through Doordarshan (DD)/All India Radio (AIR) network. All India Radio will broadcast programs to promote Yoga as a lifestyle and for the overall well-being of the people.

New Media Wing (NMW) will organize activities like 'Yoga with Family' competition as a challenge for families to do Yoga together and upload a reel using Yoga song through the social media accounts of the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting . A 'Yoga Quiz - Guess the Asana' will also be organized and the IDY 2024 Podcast will be released.

Additionally, various media units and organizations of the I&B Ministry will organize sessions/workshops on Yoga for IDY. Yoga camps, seminars etc. will also be organized this year to promote yoga and health among the employees.
