New Delhi: The Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA) has imposed a fine of Rs 3 lakh on coaching institute Maluka IAS for misleading advertisements, the government body said on Friday.

The institute's advertisements claimed "120+ selections in UPSC CSE 2022" and "Guarantee Prelims and Mains" but did not disclose that only two of the 136 successful candidates had taken the paid course, while the remaining 134 students Enrolled in free interview guidance. programme, an official statement said.

The consumer regulator said the ads violated provisions of the Consumer Protection Act 2019 relating to misleading advertisements that "deliberately suppress material information".

In its order, the CCPA said that the claim of "Guaranteed Prelims and Mains" misleads consumers about the nature and quality of services of Maluka IAS, giving the impression that any student who enrolls will be assured of appearing in the Prelims and Mains examinations. Will be assured of passing.

CCPA asks Maluka IAS to stop misleading advertisements, saying lack of proper disclosure about course details of successful students deprives consumers of making an informed choice while selecting coaching institutes.
