In 2021, 36,276 bookings worth Rs 26,25,82,484 were pending. By June 21, 2024, this number had significantly reduced to 4,837 bookings, amounting to Rs 2,52,87,098.

"Yatra has refunded approximately 87 per cent of the amount to consumers and further efforts are being made to refund approximately 13 per cent of the amount to consumers to ensure that all pending refunds are processed promptly and efficiently by the airlines," the ministry said. Let it be done."

It came to the notice of the Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA) through the National Consumer Helpline that several complaints were lodged regarding non-refund of air tickets canceled due to Covid lockdown.

During the proceedings before the CCPA, several other travel platforms like MakeMyTrip, EaseMyTrip, ClearTrip, Ixigo and Thomas Cook have refunded the full amount to consumers whose tickets were affected due to the lockdown.

To facilitate timely processing of refunds to consumers, the CCPA issued an order in June, in which it directed YATRA to set up a dedicated mechanism on the National Consumer Helpline (NCH).

CCPA said, "Specifically, Yatra is required to allocate five special seats at NCH to call the remaining 4,837 passengers to inform them about their pending travel due to flight cancellations related to CPWD-19 lockdown." Refunds will be processed."
