New Delhi: The CBI has taken over the investigation into the murder of Indian National Lok Dal's Haryana unit president Nafe Singh Rathi and a worker by unknown gunmen in Bahadurgarh near Delhi in February.

During the attack, three private gunmen employed by Rathi for security were also injured when the attackers fired at the former MLA's SUV.

Officials said the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has re-registered the case on the recommendation of the Haryana government, which was referred to the agency by the Center through a notification on April 26.

The central probe agency has named seven accused in its case, including former BJP MLA Naresh Kaushik, officials said.

He said the other six accused are Karambir Rathi, Ramesh Rathi, Satish Rathi, Gaura Rathi, Rahul and Kamal.

He said that an FIR has been registered against the accused in the case under IPC sections like criminal conspiracy, murder and other sections.

Bahadurgarh MLA and INLD worker Jai Kishan, 67, was killed when unidentified assailants opened fire on Rathi's SUV on February 25. Rathi was elected from Bahadurgarh twice in 1996 and 2005.

The attack, which took place two months before the Lok Sabha elections, drew sharp criticism from opposition parties and raised questions about the law and order situation in the BJP-ruled state.

According to the FIR based on the statement of the surviving driver Rakesh, a white colored car was following his vehicle. Rakesh tried to run away quickly but had to stop as Barahi railway crossing was closed.

Suddenly, the five assailants came out of the car and shouted that they will teach them a lesson for their enmity with Satish, Karambir, Ramesh and Naresh and opened fire on them, Rakesh said in his complaint, which is a part of the CBI FIR. Yes, said the officer.
