Sources said in the chargesheet the central agency said 1,829 recruitments were done in 17 municipalities of the state through an outsourced private entity owned by Ayan Sil, who is again in judicial custody in a cash embezzlement case worth crores of rupees. Job case for school.

On Tuesday, the CBI counsel informed the court that sleuths of the central agency, while investigating the recruitment case in municipalities, had conducted raids at 42 places from where they had seized several important documents.

He also told the court that CBI officials now need to interrogate Sil regarding his documents.

The link between Sil's company with the municipalities' recruitment case was first revealed by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in March last year when they were conducting a raid and search operation at Sil's residence in connection with the school job case.

During that raid, ED officials found a 28-page document which revealed the involvement of Sil's company in the municipalities' recruitment case.

Later, apart from conducting raids and search operations at different places, CBI also started parallel investigation, CBI officials also interrogated several Trinamool Congress leaders related to the case.

The investigation revealed that recruitments were done in exchange for cash for various posts in several municipalities, which included medical officers, ward masters, clerks, drivers, assistants and cleaning assistants, among others.
