Lucknow: A CBI court has rejected the appeal of Mohammed Parvez Alam, an alleged associate of gangster Abu Salem, while upholding his conviction in the fake passport case.

CBI court special judge Vijesh Kumar on Tuesday rejected Alam's appeal.

On September 27, 2022, the Special Judicial Magistrate had sentenced Alam and Salem, residents of Azamgarh, to three years of imprisonment.

The court had also imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 and Rs 35,000 on Salem and Alam respectively.

Parvez had challenged his conviction and sentence before the special CBI court but the appellate court did not find any flaw in the special judicial magistrate's decision.

According to the prosecution, after the 1993 Mumbai bomb blasts, Salem conspired with his wife Sameera Jumani and Alam and got fake passports prepared from Lucknow by hiding the identities of himself and his wife.

In this regard, CBI had registered an FIR against Salem and others on 16 October 1997.
