A case was registered against him at Tadepalli police station in Guntur district after Telugu Desam Party (TDP) leaders lodged a complaint that the YSRC leader had made the statement with the intention of disrupting the counting process. The case has been registered under sections 153 and 505 (2) of the Indian Penal Code and section 125 of the Representation of the People Act.

TDP legal cell general secretary Gudipati Lakshminarayana had complained that Ramakrishna Reddy, while conducting a training session for YSRCP counting agents, made some comments with ill intentions to disrupt the counting. The complainant alleged that the YSRCP leader has violated the model code of conduct and his remarks amount to creating enmity and ill-will between different sections and groups.

Ramakrishna Reddy reportedly told the party's chief election agents at a meeting on May 29 to select workers who did not care about rules and could subpoena agents from other parties as counting agents.

Describing the statement as inflammatory, TDP feared that it could incite violence during the counting of votes on June 4 and thereafter.

A delegation of TDP leaders led by general secretary Devineni Umamaheshwar Ra met Additional Chief Electoral Officer M.N. A memorandum was submitted to. Harendhir Prasad demanded action against Ramakrishna Reddy from the Election Commission of India (ECI). TDP leaders said the statement should not be taken lightly in the backdrop of violence that took place during and after the voting.

Simultaneous elections for the state's 175-member Assembly and all 25 Lok Sabha seats were held on May 13. Counting of votes is to take place on June 4.
