Hyderabad: An FIR has been lodged against BJP's Hyderabad candidate Madhav Lata following a complaint that he had hurt the sentiments of the Muslim community by making an arrow gesture towards a place of worship, police said on Sunday.

A purported video of the incident was widely circulated on social media last week.

Police said the complaint alleges that during the Ram Navami procession on April 17, Madhavi Lata fired an arrow at the place of worship and made a gesture to kill him, thereby hurting the sentiments of the Muslim community.

He said the case was registered on April 20 under section 295-A of the Indian Penal Code (intentional malicious act, intended to outrage religious feelings of any class by insulting its religion or religious beliefs).

After the clip went viral, Madhavi Latha in a post on X said that it has come to her notice that an incomplete video of hers is being circulated to create negativity.

She had said, "I would like to clarify that this is an incomplete video and if anyone's sentiments have been hurt due to such a video, then I would like to respect all the persons and apologize."
