Thane: Police have registered an FIR against 15 people for allegedly stopping the work on the government's dedicated freight corridor project in Thane district of Maharashtra. An official gave this information on Sunday.

The incident took place in Bhiwandi area on June 13 when construction work of pillars was going on on the flyover connecting a railway crossing between Ovali Village Road and the freight corridor, a Narpoli police station official said.

He said, some villagers, who had no connection with the land in question, illegally entered the government premises, formed an unlawful assembly, came in front of the earth digging machine and stopped the work.

Police said the villagers also threatened some workers.

On Friday, following a complaint by a representative of the project, 15 people, including four women, were booked under Indian Penal Code sections 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of duty), 341 (wrongful restraint) A case was registered. Sections 141, 143, 149 (unlawful assembly), 147 (rioting), 504 (intentional insult intended to provoke breach of peace) and 506 (criminal intimidation), he said.
