Alcaraz, who recently became world number two by ousting Jannik Sinner, will face Felix Auger-Aliassime in the second round after getting a bye in the first round. The Spaniard regained form on the North American hard-court swing and was successful in defending his title at the BNP Paribas Open, before losing to in-form 2017 AT Final champion Grigor Dimitrov in the Miami Open quarterfinals. Alcaraz, the No. 3 player in the ATP rankings with a 15-4 record on the season, was seen wearing tape on his right forearm during practice in Monte Carlo. As for the lucky loser, Italian Lorenzo Sonego fell to Felix Auger in the second round. -Aliassime, who will replace the 20-year-old.
