The 169-meter-long dry cargo ship, named Lady Ayana, ran aground after anchoring in the Bakirkoy district in the European part of the city, according to the Demiroren news agency.

The Turkish Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure's Coastal Protection Directorate has begun efforts to salvage the grounded ship, dispatching three fast rescue boats and a tugboat.

The ship had traveled from the Black Sea to the Sea of ​​Marmara via the Bosphorus Strait and was expected to continue its journey to the Aegean Sea and then on to the Mediterranean Sea.
