The defeat against Qatar dashed fans' dreams of seeing the team qualify for the third round of FIFA World Cup qualifiers, a stage the team had never reached before. The defeat also means that India will not get automatic qualification for the AFC Asian Cup. 2027.

After the game, newly appointed Indian captain Gurpreet Singh Sandhu took to Instagram to express his thoughts on the game and reassure fans that better things are coming.

"We believed, we still had a chance to improve after everything. The boys gave everything to do that on the field last night, but it still didn't happen. Yesterday's unfortunate result and the equalizer is a lesson. That to get where we want to go, you need not just a hook but a crook, no one will give us anything, we have to take it,” read the post on Instagram.

Sandhu also appreciated the team's fans who have supported the team despite not having much motivation to do so.

The Indian captain concluded, "To everyone who supported us through the ups and downs in this campaign, thank you, we hear you and we will make you proud."
