Cannes [France], On Friday evening a French theater in Cannes was abuzz with the magic of Indian storytelling - courtesy Shyam Benegal's classic 'Manthan' starring the late Smita Patil and actor Naseeruddin Shah, ' 'Manthan', which was inspired by the leading milk cooperative organisation. The movement of Verghese Kurien, who launched 'Operation Flood' to transform India from a milk-deficient country to the world's largest milk producer and is credited with creating the billion-dollar brand 'Amul', has won the Cannes Film Festival. 'Manthan' was restored by the Film Heritage Foundation at Prasad Corporation Pvt. Ltd.'s Post-Studio, Chennai and L'Imagine Retrovita Laboratory, involving the Gujarat Co-operative Milk Marketing Federation Ltd. (Amul), cinematographer Govind Nihalani and others.Talking about the Cannes premiere of director Shyam Benegal's 'Manthan', Shivendra Singh Dungarpur, Director, Film Heritage Foundation said, "It's great to walk the re-carpet for the third time in a row and present another classic here as the flagship of the Cannes Classic.
