Kolkata: The election campaign on eight seats in West Bengal in the sixth phase of Lok Sabha elections ended at 6 pm on Thursday. An election officer gave this information.

He said that voting will be held on Tamluk, Kanthi, Ghatal, Jhargram, Medinipur, Purulia Bankura and Bishnupur Lok Sabha seats on Saturday.

A total of 1.45 crore voters, including 73.63 lakh men, 71.70 lakh women and 13 persons of the third gender, are eligible to exercise their franchise in the final phase at 15,600 polling stations.

He said that out of 79 candidates in the fray, Bankura and Jhargram have the highest number of 13 candidates each, followed by Purulia (12) and Medinipur and Tamluk with nine candidates each.The election officer said that seven candidates each are contesting from Bishnupur and Ghatal Lok Sabha seats.

Several veteran candidates are in the fray in this phase, including Ghatal TMC MP Deepak Adhikari, popularly known as Dev, who is trying to save his seat against fellow cine star and BJP's Kharagpur Sadar MLA Hiranmay Chattopadhyay and fashion celebrity The designer is contesting against Agnimitra. BJP's Paul is contesting from Medinipur TMC MLA and actor June Maliya on the Medinipur Lok Sabha seat.

In Tamluk, BJP has fielded former Calcutta High Court judge Abhijit Gangopadhyay against TMC's Young Turk Debangshu Bhattacharya.

Soumendu Adhikari, brother of Suvendu Adhikari, leader of opposition in West Benga Assembly, has been fielded from Kanthi Lok Sabha seat, which is considered the constituency of a senior BJP leader.

In Purulia, senior Congress leader Nepal Mahato is contesting against TMC's Shantiram Mahato.More than 1,000 companies of central forces will be deployed in this phase.

Star campaigners including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee and her nephew Abhishek Banerjee have held rallies for their respective party candidates.
