At this stage, the stage is set for a triangular contest between the Bharatiya Janata Party-led NDA, the Samajwadi Party-led India Bloc and the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP).

The seats where voting is to be held in the first phase include Saharanpur, Bijnor, Kairana Muzaffarnagar, Nagina, Moradabad, Rampur and Pilibhit.

Congress, which is contesting from Saharanpur seat in the first phase, will hold a road show in favor of party candidate Imran Masood under the leadership of party general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Wednesday.

However, the party has not campaigned in the first phase.

In the first phase of 2019, three of these seats (Muzaffarnagar, Kairana and Pilibhit) went to BJP, two (Moradabad and Rampur) went to SP and three (Saharanpur, Nagina and Bijnor) went to BSP.

Samajwadi Party had fought the 2019 elections in alliance with BSP.BJP has intensified campaigning in western UP and its leaders are holding meetings in all eight constituencies.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has already addressed several rallies in Meerut and Pilibhit, while Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has addressed more than 2 rallies in these seats.

BSP President Mayawati and her nephew Akash Anand are also addressing election meetings in support of their party's candidates.

This time BJP and SP have worked on a new strategy and formed an alliance. BJP has joined hands with RLD and SP has joined hands with Congress. BSP has decided to contest the elections alone.

Prominent candidates in this phase include Jitin Prasada from Pilibhit, while Union minister Sanjeev Balyan (BJP) is contesting from Muzaffarnagar for the third time, Azad Samaj Party chief Chandra Shekhar Azad is contesting from Nagina.

SP's Muslim face Azam Khan, who has made Rampur and Moradabad a stronghold for the party, is missing from the election campaign as he is in jail. However, even in his absence, his influence on the elections in both these constituencies remains.
