Last month, amid the Lok Sabha elections, the police took action late at night and raided a rented accommodation in Kolaghat in East Madinapur district. The officer challenged the action in a single-judge bench of Justice Amrita Sinha.

On 24 May, Justice Sinha ordered an interim stay on police action in the case till 10 June. That interim stay expired on Monday, following which the matter came up for hearing before Justice Sinha's bench on Tuesday, where the latter was ultimately extended. Ban till 28th June.

The next date of hearing in the case will be on June 19.

During the last hearing on May 24, Adhikari's lawyer argued that the late night police action was deliberate to harass the Leader of Opposition amid the Lok Sabha elections. However, the state government's counsel claimed that the police action that night was in a separate case and the police were not even aware that the place was rented by the opposition leader.

That day, Justice Sinha said it was strange that in this case the police reached there early in the morning only after receiving a complaint and without conducting a proper investigation. "On how many occasions does the police act with such promptness?" He interrogated on 24th May.
