Complaints came from 92 polling stations spread across eight Lok Sabha seats, from six states, including one from Maharashtra's Ahmednagar constituency.

The ECI said there were a total of 40 such cases of burnt memory/microcontroller of electronic voting machines (EVMs) in all six assembly constituencies of Ahmednagar Lok Sabha seat.

These include - Srigonda, Parner (10 each), Karjat-Jamkhed, Ahmednagar city, Rahuri and Shevgaon (5 each), totaling 40.

This is the highest among all eight Lok Sabha constituencies spread across six states, and Bharatiya Janata Party's sitting MP Sujay Vikhe-Patil – who was defeated by Nationalist Congress Party (SP) winner Nilesh D. Lanke – has now applied for a probe. Have done/verification of (40) EVMs in your constituency.

While Lanke got 624,797 votes and went home, Vikhe-Patil got 595,868 votes and lost by a margin of 28,929 votes, sending shock waves in BJP circles.

The statement said the complaints were received as per the ECI's standard operating procedures announced on June 1.

Apart from Maharashtra, similar petitions have been received from Vizianagaram (Andhra Pradesh – 02 EVMs affected), Kanker (Chhattisgarh – 04 EVMs), Faridabad and Karnal (Haryana – 06 EVMs), Vellore and Virudhanagar (Tamil Nadu – 20 EVMs), and . Zaheerabad (Telangana – 20 EVMs).
