New Delhi: The Budget 2024-25 should focus on job creation besides boosting the manufacturing sector, economists who participated in the pre-Budget consultation meeting with Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman here on Wednesday said.

The meeting was attended by Swadeshi Jagran Manch national co-convenor Ashwini Mahajan, Institute for Studies in Industrial Development (ISID) director and chief executive Nagesh Kumar and TCA Ananth, among others.

Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Mahajan said that unemployment is a big issue and the government should focus on generating employment.

He said that considering the boom in the economy, consumption demand is not going to be a problem.

“We talked a lot about the need to push the manufacturing sector forward,” Nagesh said. He said that incentives should be provided in the budget to promote MSME and textile sector.

Nagesh advocated increasing the scope of PLI scheme.

"Union Minister of Finance and Corporate Affairs Smt. @nsitharaman will chair the first pre-Budget consultation with leading economists regarding the upcoming General Budget 2024-25 in New Delhi today," the Finance Ministry said in a post on Twitter.

It said, "The #PreBudget consultation meeting was also attended by Union Minister of State for Finance Shri @mppChaudhary; Finance Secretary; Secretaries of the Departments of Economic Affairs, Revenue, Financial Services and Corporate Affairs and Chief Economic Advisor to the Government of India." ,

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman may present the Union Budget for the financial year 2024-25 in the last week of July.
