Shillong, Border Security Force (BSF) and Border Guards Bangladesh (BGB) on Thursday signed an agreement for joint management of the border to combat militancy, smuggling and human trafficking, officials said here.

The agreement was signed as part of a four-day conference of commanders of the two border forces, which concluded here on Thursday, he said.

The 13-member Indian delegation was led by Tripura Frontier chief IG Patel Piyush Purushottam Das, while the 13-member BGB delegation was led by Additional Director General MD Shazedur Rahman, who is also the Chattogram area commander.

"Various issues of bilateral interest were discussed to enhance cooperation between the two armies. Special emphasis was laid on countering insurgent activities, psychotropic drugs and narcotics smuggling, border violations and pending infrastructural and developmental works besides common coordinated border management. He said the two armies held discussions and emphasized on jointly evolving viable solutions to various bilateral issues being faced by both the armies, so as to maintain peace and tranquility along the international border and resolve them amicably.
