The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has sanctioned the construction of 383 compound BOPs along the 4,096.7 km long Indo-Bangladesh Border (IBB) passing through the states of West Bengal, Assam, Tripura, Meghalaya and Mizoram. Of these states, the IBB spans 2,216.7 km in West Bengal.

The composite BOPs are a notable improvement over the conventional ones providing basic services and defenses to the BSF troops deployed in that area. A composite BOP will have at least one barracks for jawans with kitchen, mess and toilets.

It will also feature an administrative block, a weapons storage facility, a dedicated wireless room, a garage and a medical unit.

Each composite BOP will have six cemented bunkers to protect against any attack. Such BOPs will provide a better working environment for jawans and greater dominance against criminal activities across the IBB.

Composite BOPs are being constructed at strategic locations and Kakmarichar is one of them.

The Deputy Director General also reviewed the proposed new line of domination and assessed its strategic importance. Kakmarichar is on the banks of the Padma River, the center of which acts as a natural border between India and Bangladesh.

In October 2019, a BSF police chief was shot dead by the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) during a flag meet between the two forces. This sparked a major dispute between the two border guard forces.

A K Arya, BSF DIG and spokesperson, South Bengal Frontier, said the ADG toured the area extensively and even traveled on a tractor while visiting the BOP Bamnabad Area of Responsibility (AOR), School Ghat.

He said the ADG also reviewed the new line of dominance in the AOR of BOP Rajanagar. He was accompanied by Maninder P S Pawar, IG, South Bengal Frontier, BSF.

Earlier, he reviewed the night domination strategies at the Charbhadra BOP Base and carried out a thorough verification of the night vision devices and Pan-Tilt-Zoom () camera points to ensure effective round-the-clock surveillance, 7 days a week.

The ADG also held a detailed briefing with company commanders of 146 BSF, addressing critical issues related to area dominance, surveillance and other operational matters.
