Hyderabad, BRS on Wednesday declared G Nivedita as its candidate for the by-election in Secunderabad Cantonment assembly constituency in Telangana.

The by-election was necessitated after the death of Nivedita's sister Lasya Nandita in a road accident here in February this year.

BRS president and former chief minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao decided on Nivedita's candidature after talks with party leaders, the BRS release said.

Voting for the by-election will be held along with the Lok Sabha elections on May 13.

Nivedita's father G Sayanna, who was a five-time MLA from Sikanderba Cantonment (SC), died in February last year due to health issues.

BRS had fielded Lasya Nandita in the assembly elections held in November last year. However, in a tragic turn of events, he died in an ROA accident necessitating a by-election.

The ruling Congress has already declared Narayan Shri Ganesh as its candidate from Secunderabad Cantonment.
