Leh, Border Roads Organization (BRO) has sought the intervention of Ladakh Brigadier Lieutenant Governor (retd) B D Mishra to complete various border road projects after work was suspended on wildlife department directorates in the Union Territory, an official said on Wednesday. .

Vijayak Project chief engineer Brigadier Vinay Bahl and Himank project chief engineer Brigadier Vishal Srivastava raised the issue of suspended work with the lieutenant governor after they visited him here, the official said.

Briefing Mishra about the construction of new roads along with widening of existing roads in the border areas of Ladakh, the delegation informed him about the clearance obtained by them from the wildlife board for construction and widening of these roads.

Brig Bahl informed about the order received from the Ladakh wildlife department to stop the construction and widening of the road.

He informed the lieutenant governor about the problems they were facing in completing the said project within the stipulated time frame and sought his intervention, the official said.

Brig Srivastava also briefed Mishra about the problem faced in construction of new roads in Changthang area, the official said.

Taking note of the issues raised by the officials, the Lt Governor asked them to meet Principal Chief Conservator of Forests Brij Mohan Sharma to find a viable solution to address their problems as these projects will not only benefit the people of Ladakh but also to the country on the security front, the official said.

Meanwhile, a NITI Aayog team led by security program director Major General (retd) K Narayanan separately called the lieutenant governor and informed him about the launch of 'Sampoornata Abhiyan' in Leh and Kargil districts.

Sampoornata Abhiyan aims to improve health, nutrition, education and agriculture sectors, Narayanan said, adding that "they are partners in the development of Ladakh and would provide expertise in different fields where the Union Territory needs support."
