There was celebration at the house of Gonda (UP), Kaiserganj MP and former Wrestling Federation of India chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh after BJ named his son Karan Bhushan Singh as his Lok Sabha candidate from Gonda constituency.

The party has nominated Brij Bhushan Singh's son from the seat in place of him, who is facing criminal charges of sexual harassment of female wrestlers.

In a video on social media, Karan Singh is seen touching his father's feet while sitting among his supporters at home. After the announcement of his name, he told media persons, "I am grateful to the party leadership and the public for giving me the opportunity to serve the people here."

Speaking to a news channel, Brij Bhushan Singh said, "I am not bigger than the party...I welcome the party's decision."

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath congratulated Karan Bhushan Singh on BJ making him his candidate.

This will be Karan Bhushan Singh's first political fight. Karan Singh, born on 13 December 1990, is a law graduate and was elected president of Uttar Pradesh Wrestling Federation last year.His elder brother Prateek Bhushan Singh is a BJP MLA. His mother Ketaki Dev Singh is a former MP from Gonda. The family enjoys support from the upper castes, especially in Gonda and surrounding districts.

Brij Bhushan Singh is a six-time MP and has represented Gonda, Balrampur and Kaiserganj constituencies. Although he rejected the allegations, Brij Bhushan Singh resigned from the post of wrestling federation president amid fierce protests against him over sexual harassment allegations. Delhi Police has filed a charge sheet against him in the court.

Karan Singh is contesting against Narendra Pandey of Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP).SP has not yet declared its candidate for Kaiserganj seat.

Party sources said that BJP candidates will file their nomination papers on Friday.
