New Delhi: A 12-year-old boy died of electrocution after coming in contact with an electric pole due to the storm that hit Delhi yesterday evening. Police gave this information.

The victim Kaif Mohammad was outside his house when this incident happened in Khaira village of Chhawla area. Police said his family has demanded action against BSES.

He got electrocuted after coming in contact with an electric pole of Poway discom BSES amid thunderstorm and dust storm in the national capital.

Power discom BSES said in a statement, “In an unfortunate incident, a young boy died of electrocution after coming in contact with a telephone pole that was leaking with an illegal wire. Our condolences are with the family of the deceased.”

"Initial reports indicate that the abandoned telephone pole, which was not maintained by BSES, was illegally encroached upon by a resident of the area, who had extended the 'chhajja' of his premises. The resident's premises An illegal wire was found hanging on the pole, due to which leakage led to this unfortunate incident."

The boy was taken to RTRM Hospital where he was declared dead, another police officer said.

The district crime team and electricity department officials inspected the spot and a case was registered under Indian Penal Code section 304A (causing death by negligence) at Chhawla police station, he said. Statements of witnesses and other residents were also recorded.

Kaif lived with his parents and two elder brothers in Chhawla area. He was a class six student of a government school. Police said that his father is a house construction contractor.
