Thiruvananthapuram: The BJP on Wednesday hit out at the ruling CPI(M) in Kerala over a bomb blast in the politically volatile Kannur district that killed an 86-year-old man and raised suspicions that the Marxist party leadership was deliberately trying to destroy the peaceful Is trying. Environment in the area.

According to police, the elderly man - Velayudhan - died when he picked up and tried to open the bomb, which he found at a deserted property near Thalassery in Kannur district, where he had gone to collect coconuts on Tuesday.

BJP state chief K Surendran said several anti-social activities were reported at the spot where the bomb blast took place and the Left party leadership was well aware of it.

He alleged that the bombs were made with the knowledge of Marxist party leaders.

Addressing a press conference here, Surendran further said that the CPI(M) is going through a tough time in the state after its defeat in the recent Lok Sabha elections.

He alleged that infighting in the party and strong resentment (among workers) against corruption in the leadership is also troubling the Marxist party.Surendran said, "Therefore, we doubt whether the party leadership itself is deliberately planning such activities and trying to push Kannur into a tense atmosphere like in the past through violence and bomb blasts."

He said incidents like the bomb blast are strengthening the suspicion that the CPI(M) leadership is deliberately trying to destroy the peaceful atmosphere in Kannur, and demanded a comprehensive investigation into the incident.

Velayudhan was seriously injured in the blast and was taken to Thalassery Co-operative Hospital, but his life could not be saved, police said.

A senior Kannur district police officer told reporters that as per preliminary investigation, it appeared to be a country-made bomb.
