Mumbai: A Mumbai court on Wednesday remanded Mihir Shah, the main accused in the BMW hit-and-run case, in police custody till July 16, while the ruling Shiv Sena sacked his father Rajesh Shah as deputy leader. of the party.

The Mumbai civic body demolished unauthorized constructions and alterations at a local bar that Mihir visited.

Mihir Shah, 24, was arrested on Tuesday, two days after he allegedly crashed his BMW car into a two-wheeler, killing a woman and injuring her husband.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde assured that strict action will be taken against the culprits in the BMW case and announced a relief of Rs 10 lakh for the victim's family.

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) demolished unauthorized works at Vice-Global Tapas Bar in suburban Juhu, bringing down 3,500 square feet of illegal construction, a civic official said.

The team from BMC's K-West ward office reached the bar on Wednesday morning and demolished the unauthorized construction and alterations made inside the establishment, the official said.

About 1,500 square meters of additional space was created on the ground floor without permission to accommodate an iron shed, while part of the first floor was illegally closed, he claimed.

The state excise department had earlier sealed the bar where Mihir Shah and his friends were on Saturday night, hours before the accident.

The bar manager had served strong liquor to Mihir, who is not yet 24, violating the legal drinking age in Maharashtra of 25, an excise department official said earlier.

Mihir Shah was produced before Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (Sewri Court) SP Bhosale on Wednesday, who sent him to police custody till July 16.

Mihir Shah changed his appearance by cutting his hair and shaving his beard to evade arrest, and it was necessary to find out who helped him change his appearance, the prosecution told the court.

Pressing for him to be remanded in custody for the maximum possible period, prosecutors Ravindra Patil and Bharti Bhosle said he escaped from the crime scene with the help of his co-accused.

During the hearing, police told the court it was a "cruel and merciless crime." They said the accused should be given maximum custody because they need to investigate who helped him escape and also because the car's license plate is yet to be recovered.

According to police, the victim Kaveri Nakhwa was dragged for about 1.5 km by the speeding car before Mihir stopped it, changed seats with his driver Rajrishi Bidawat and fled in another vehicle. The driver allegedly hit her while she was reversing the BMW.

After being on the run since the accident, Mihir was arrested on Tuesday.

According to the police, Rajesh Shah actively ensured Mihir's escape after the accident.

Bidawat, who was sitting in the car and allegedly swapped the driver's seat with Mihir, is in police custody till July 11.

CM Eknath Shinde, who heads the Shiv Sena, on Wednesday sacked Rajesh Shah as the party's deputy leader.

Shah, however, remains a member of the Shiv Sena.

Shinde said it is not about supporting anyone and no one will be spared.

The guilty will not be saved; Strict action will be taken against them, Shinde told reporters here.

Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Aaditya Thackeray on Wednesday demanded "bulldozer justice" in the BMW hit-and-run case.

He asked why an excavator is not being run against Mihir Shah's house as a punitive measure in the case.

"The regime that believes in bulldozer justice must execute bulldozer justice at its house. I would like to see bulldozer justice reach Mihir Rajesh Shah's house," said Thackeray, the MLA from Worli.

"Bulldozer justice" refers to the demolition of properties of people accused of engaging in serious crimes using powerful motorized machines, even before they are found guilty by the courts. Several such punitive actions against accused have been reported in BJP-ruled states such as Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh.

Thackeray said the BMW hit-and-run case should be treated as murder and dealt with accordingly.
