Mumbai: The Mumbai civic body on Wednesday demolished alleged unauthorized constructions and modifications at a city bar that was visited by the prime accused in the BMW hit-and-run case hours before he crashed his car into a two-wheeler. , in which a woman died, authorities said.

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) took action against Vice-Global Tapas Bar located in the city's Juhu suburb, during which it demolished 3,500 square feet of illegal construction, they said.

The BMW car driven by key accused Mihir Shah allegedly collided with the two-wheeler from behind in Worli area of ​​south-central Mumbai on Sunday morning, resulting in the death of Kaveri Nakhwa (45). , who was traveling as a passenger, while her husband Pradeep survived with injuries, police said.

According to them, Kaveri Nakhwa was dragged for about 1.5 km by the speeding car before Mihir stopped him, swapped seats with his driver and fled in another vehicle.

Mihir Shah, who was absconding since the accident, was arrested on Tuesday. A court here on Wednesday sent him to police custody till July 16.

Talking about the action taken against the bar, a civic official said the team from BMC's K-West ward office reached the Vice-Global Tapas Bar this morning and demolished the unauthorized construction and alterations made inside the establishment.

On Tuesday, the civic body carried out an inspection of the bar to check whether any unauthorized additions or modifications were made to the premises, the official said.

Before the demolition, the bar's management received a notice, he said.

The BMC said around 3,500 square feet of illegal construction on the bar premises was demolished. The action was carried out in the presence of police personnel and officials of the state excise department.

During the operation, unauthorized constructions were removed in the kitchen area of ​​the bar, on the ground floor and on the first floor of the bar located near Juhu Church, officials said.

About 1,500 square meters of additional space was created on the ground floor without permission to accommodate an iron shed, while a part of the first floor was illegally closed, they said.

A total of 20 workers, five engineers and two officers participated in the operation with a JCB machine, some gas cutters and electric breaking machines were used, according to reports.

The state excise department had earlier sealed the bar.

Mihir Shah and his friends visited the bar on Saturday night, hours before the accident.

The bar manager had served strong liquor to Mihir, who is not yet 24, violating the legal drinking age in Maharashtra of 25, an excise department official said earlier.

The action to seal the bar was taken on the order of the district collector for violation of rules, he added.
