In a letter dated July 10 to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh (BMS) said that BSNL is preventing telecom operators from increasing mobile tariffs as a market balance and that it should be allowed to upgrade its infrastructure for 4G services and 5G using equipment from global players till such time as indigenous technology is developed.

The RSS affiliated union said that BSNL is losing customers in the absence of high-speed internet service and its presence in the market as a full-fledged 4G and 5G service provider is imperative in the interest of the nation but also the common people. .

“Reliance Jio and Airtel have affected the general public and the public is practically forced to pay a considerable amount to these telecom companies as the government telecom operator i.e. BSNL is yet to roll out its 4G service /Full 5G. It is a known fact that BSNL has always acted as a market balancer in the telecom market, which has always kept private telecom companies at bay from increasing tariffs," the letter said. He said private telecom operators have already made huge profits in recent years and this increase was totally unnecessary and without any justification.

“Therefore, the government should make immediate efforts to force these telcos to reverse the tariff hike…this tariff hike by private telcos once again brings into focus the presence of BSNL in the telecommunications sector as a market balancer," the letter said. .

Earlier this month, Reliance Jio, Airtel and Vodafone Idea increased tariffs by 10 to 27 per cent.

BMS said that the drastic increase in tariffs has affected the citizens of Bhartiya and has resulted in enormous hardship for the common people who have been using mobile phone not only as a means of communication but also as a means of earning a daily living.

The union sought the Prime Minister's intervention to enable BSNL get the necessary support to launch its 4G and 5G services, which will not only protect the interests of its customers but also help regulate the market and curb illogical tariff hikes by from the private sector. telecommunications operators.

"BSNL has not been able to upgrade its network to 4G/5G services due to limitations imposed by not using standard 4G/5G equipment from global vendors.
