Reacting to the incident, Mangaluru Police Commissioner Anupam Aggarwal on Monday said it happened because the victims had allegedly raised some slogans in front of the Bolar Mosque.

“A stabbing incident took place in front of a bar at Bolar in Konaje border. Three (Hindu) BJP followers were going in front of Bolar Masjid and allegedly raised some slogans. There was a group of 20-25 Muslim youth on bikes behind them."

They stopped in front of a bar about two kilometers ahead of the mosque. Muslim youth also followed them to the bar, where a dispute broke out. There three people were beaten and two of them were stabbed. One of them is out of danger, the other is undergoing surgery at KS Hegde Hospital,” the police commissioner said.

The incident came to light from Bolar near Bantwal town of the district late on Sunday night. The victims have been identified as Harish, 41, and Nandkumar, 24, residents of Inoli. Krishna Kumar of Inauli was also beaten up by the group.

Initial reports said they were standing and watching the victory procession when a group of 20 to 25 miscreants on bikes, who were following the procession, suddenly attacked them and attacked them with knives.

Both the victims are currently being treated at a private hospital in Deralakatte, and one of them has undergone minor surgery. Doctors have said that he is out of danger. A case has been registered within the limits of Konaje police station and the police have started searching for the attackers.

BJP leaders and Hindutva activists gathered at the hospital and condemned the incident after meeting the victims.
