Jammu, Union Minister Jitendra Singh on Tuesday expressed confidence in the BJP to form the next government in Jammu and Kashmir as he joined party candidate Satish Sharma on a tour in the Billawar Assembly segment of the district from Kathua.

Filing of nomination papers for 40 seats is underway, voting for which is scheduled in the third and final phase of the assembly elections on October 1. The last date for submission of nominations is September 12.

Sharma submitted his nomination papers before the returning officer concerned for the Billawar Assembly segment in the presence of the Union minister.

Hundreds of BJP workers and supporters participated in the tour amidst slogans in favor of the party and the candidate.

“BJP is getting support from all sections of society across J&K. The BJP will form its next government with an absolute majority,” Singh said.

He criticized the Congress for ignoring the Billawar and Basholi regions and assured the people of district status once his party came to power in the Union Territory.

Union Minister G Kishan Reddy accompanied former SSP Mohan Lal Bhagat, who filed nomination papers for him from the Akhnoor Assembly segment of Jammu. Bhagat voluntarily retired from service last month and joined the BJP.

"There is a strong wave in favor of the BJP," Reddy said and urged party workers to make people aware of the welfare schemes and development works of the Modi government.

BJP MP and former Union Minister Anurag Thakur also accompanied R S Pura South party candidate N S Raina to file his nomination papers here.

“This time the BJP will form a government of its own in J&K as the Modi government permanently ended the menace of separatism and terrorism by abrogating Article 370 in 2019,” Thakur said.

He said that Jammu and Kashmir is an integral part of India and urged party workers to take Modi's revolutionary works to every home.

Thakur reminded everyone that the BJP had promised abrogation of Article 370, which he fulfilled and assured that he would also fulfill all future promises.

BJP candidate from Udhampur East, RS Pathania, also filed his nomination papers after leading a “show of strength” procession in Udhampur, where the party witnessed a rebellion led by state vice-president Pawan Khajuria against his nomination on previous day.

Khajuria had given a two-day ultimatum to the party leadership to change candidates and said he would decide his future course of action after meeting his staff on Wednesday.

BJP candidate from Ramgarh, Devender Manyal, accompanied by MP Jugal Kishore Sharma, also submitted his papers at the returning officer's office concerned in Samba district.
