New Delhi [India], Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has nominated candidates for the upcoming assembly by-elections in Punjab and West Bengal.

"The Central Election Committee of the Bharatiya Janata Party has given its approval to the following names for the upcoming assembly by-elections to be held in the states of Punjab and West Bengal," a press release from the BJP central office said.

While the BJP has fielded Sheetal Angural from Jalandhar West (SC) assembly constituency in West Bengal, Manas Kumar Ghosh from Raiganj, Manoj Kumar Biswas from Ranaghat South (SC), Binay Kumar Biswas from Baghda (SC) and Kalyan Choubey has been made the candidate. Maniktala to Bhattacharya.

Earlier last week, the Election Commission had announced the dates for holding by-elections to fill the vacancies in 13 assembly constituencies across seven states.

Elections will be held on July 10 and counting of votes will take place on July 13.

The Commission will conduct by-elections on one seat each in Bihar, Tamil Nadu, Punjab and Madhya Pradesh, two seats in Uttarakhand, three seats in Himachal Pradesh and four seats in Uttarakhand.

The seats of Bihar, Tamil Nadu, Punjab and Madhya Pradesh are Rupauli, Vikravandi, Amarwada (ST) and Jalandhar West (SC) respectively.

By-elections will also be held on two seats in Uttarakhand - Badrinath and Mangalore and three seats in Himachal Pradesh - Dehra, Nalagarh and Hamirpur.

The last date for filing nominations is June 21 and candidates can withdraw their candidature till June 26. These seats were vacant due to resignation or death of sitting MLAs.
