New Delhi: BJP leaders Manohar Lal Khattar, Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Bandi Sanjay Kumar and Ravneet Singh Bittu are likely to be among the new faces in the Union Council of Ministers, which will take oath along with Prime Minister-designate Narendra Modi on Sunday evening.

Sources said senior party leaders like Amit Shah, Rajnath Singh, Nitin Gadkari, Piyush Goyal, Ashwini Vaishnav and Mansukh Mandaviya are being seen as certainties in the new government.

BJP leader Jyotiraditya Scindia and MPs Jitin Prasad from Uttar Pradesh and Raksha Khadse from Maharashtra are also considered to be part of the new government. Khadse confirmed to the media that he had received a call to be part of the government.

Many of them met Modi at his official residence.

Outgoing Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, Sarbananda Sonowal and Kiren Rijiju, both outgoing ministers, will also take oath, a source said.

Apart from TDP's Ram Mohan Naidu and Chandra Shekhar Pemmasani and JDU's Lalan Singh and Ram Nath Thakur, allies like Chirag Paswan, Jitan Ram Manjhi, HD Kumaraswamy and Jayant Choudhary are being considered for ministerial berths.

Bittu, grandson of former Punjab Chief Minister Beant Singh, had lost the Lok Sabha elections, but due to his profile and the BJP's efforts to strengthen its presence in Punjab, he may be included in the party.

Telangana electors Sanjay Kumar and G Kishan Reddy were seen leaving together for Modi's residence and sources close to them said they could be inducted as ministers.

However, there has been no official comment on the potential ministers.

While selecting its ministers, the BJP will have to keep in mind the crushing defeats in Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra to regain its ground.
