Agartala, Deepak Majumdar, who won the Ramnagar Assembly by-election on BJP ticket, took oath as MLA in a simple ceremony at the Assembly building here on Wednesday.
Majumdar, who is also the mayor of Agartala, was administered the oath of office by Speaker Vishwabandhu Sen. Chief Minister Manik Saha, his cabinet colleague and Congress MLA Sudip Roy Barman attended the swearing-in ceremony.
Majumdar defeated India Bloc candidate Ratan Das by 18,000 votes on 19 April.
Earlier, he had contested the assembly elections from Khowai in 2018 but was unsuccessful. In 2022, Majumdar won the civic elections and became the Mayor of Agartala.
