New Delhi [India], After an uproar in the Lok Sabha over Rahul Gandhi's comment on the Hindu community, Congress MP K Suresh on Monday said that the BJP is only taking advantage of Hinduism and is not a real Hindu.
"We are all Hindus. The BJP is just taking advantage of Hinduism; it wants to gain political advantages. The BJP is not a real Hindu," Suresh said.
Participating in the debate on the motion of thanks in the President's speech, Rahul Gandhi attacked the BJP-led government and alleged that there has been "a systematic attack" on the idea of India.
"There has been a systematic and large-scale attack on the idea of India, the Constitution and on people who resisted the attack on the Constitution. Many of us were personally attacked. Some of the leaders are still in prison. Anyone who resisted the idea of concentration of power and wealth, of aggression on the poor, Dalits and minorities was crushed... I was attacked by order of the Government of India, by order of the Prime Minister of India... The most pleasant part of all This was the 55 hours of interrogation by ED…” he alleged.
"Abhayamudra is the symbol of Congress... Abhayamudra is the gesture of bravery, it is the gesture of tranquility and security, which dispels fear and grants divine protection and bliss in Hinduism, Islam, Sikhism, Buddhism and others Indian religions... "All our great men have spoken of non-violence and ending fear... But those who call themselves Hindus only speak of violence, hatred, lies... Aap Hindu ho hi nahi "said the Congress leader.
BJP members expressed strong objections to Rahul Gandhi's comments.
Home Minister Amit Shah attacked Rahul Gandhi and said connecting violence with any religion is wrong.
"The opposition leader has categorically said that those who call themselves Hindus talk about violence and practice violence. He does not know that millions of people proudly call themselves Hindus. Connecting violence with any religion is wrong. He should apologize," Amit Shah said.
Rahul Gandhi also said that the BJP is not the entire Hindu society.
"Narendra Modi is not the entire Hindu society. BJP is not the entire Hindu society, RSS is not the entire Hindu society, this is not BJP's contract," he said.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi lashed out at Rahul Gandhi for his comments and said that calling the entire Hindu community "violent is a very serious matter."
