New Delhi, TMC Rajya Sabha member Sagarika Ghosh said that with issues like unemployment taking center stage, the BJP and Prime Minister Narendra Modi have already lost their story and will lose the election too when the results come on June 4.

In an interview with PTI, the journalist-turned-politician also said that the Sandeshkhali issue has had a "reverse effect" on the BJP, and will affect their political prospects in West Bengal. He also expressed confidence that the India Bloc will support the government after the elections.

“In the 2024 general elections, Shri Narendra Modi and BJP have lost their story. This election has given a chance to BJP and Narendra Modi to do a reality check. They were talking about "crossing 400", they were talking about developed India. This election, Ghosh said, "Shri Narendra Modi's balloon has burst." He said that in this election paper leak, problems of farmers, decreasing household savings, increasing unemployment, water shortage and other such issues are in focus. "So these elections are a reality check for Narendra Modi and the BJP".

Talking about West Bengal, he claimed that the BJP is struggling to achieve 'double digits' in the state."They don't know anything about Bengali culture. Mr. Prime Minister, I am talking derogatory about people who eat fish, they want to close my shops, want to close fish shops. This BJP's prospects in Bengal have been ruined." He said.BJP had won 18 of the 42 Lok Sabha seats in West Bengal in 2019, while TMC had won 22 and Congress two.In March, TMC's Tamluk MP Dibyend Adhikari, brother of BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari, joined the BJP along with Barrackpore MP Arjun Singh.

Singh was a BJP MP on record in Parliament, but he switched to TMC before returning to the BJP ahead of the elections. "The atmosphere in Bengal is definitely anti-BJP. It is completely in support of Mamata Banerjee and BJP, I am struggling to reach double digits in Bengal," she said.

Ghosh also said that the Sandeshkhali issue has completely backfired on the BJP."In Basirhat, which is the constituency of Sandeshkhali, Trinamool Congress will win by more than two lakh votes. Sandeshkhali is nothing but an evil conspiracy of BJP to attack Trinamool Congress, defame Bengal and defame the women of Bengal. Was." He said.

She said, "This will definitely affect the BJP's electoral prospects in West Bengal, because I show that when they talk about 'nari samman', they talk about imposing false rape cases against women worth Rs 2,000." Ready to pay Rs.

The comments come in the backdrop of several videos surfacing on social media purportedly claiming that a local BJP leader got several Sandeshkhali women to sign blank papers, who were later accused of sexual harassment again against TMC leaders. were filled in as complaints.Ghosh said he has not seen an election as "toxic" as this one, as he accused Modi and other BJP leaders of using abusive language.

"The supreme leader of the BJP, the Prime Minister himself is using such terrible language, abusive language. His words have no weight. He is giving such interviews which are meaningless. From March 31 to May 14, he gave 41 interviews. Gave 44 days. And all these interviews are about creating an image of narcissism,'' he alleged.

He also questioned the role of the Election Commission, amid persistent allegations from the opposition that the Election Commission is not taking action against MCC violations by the ruling party. However, he said the opposition has no other way out except to approach the Election Commission. "Another disturbing feature of this election, I must say, is the role of the Election Commission. In every round (the opposition) has Bringing up issues where the Election Commission needs to take action. We saw a BJP member picking up stuff from inside the pole boot. Referring to an incident in Hyderabad, he said, "The veil is put on the faces of Muslim women to confirm their identity."

Election officials had registered a case against Lata after a video clip of the incident surfaced.

He claimed, "The Election Commission has been extremely disappointing in this election. The ruling party, the Prime Minister, are giving hate speeches and the Election Commission has not considered it appropriate to intervene. It's a "long and hot" election but voters are cold, he said. "Indifferent, there's no wave."

Asked about her move from journalism to politics, Ghosh, who recently joined TMC and was elected to the Rajya Sabha, said she feels this is not the time to "sit on the fence".

She said, “I was very disappointed with what was happening in the country. I think all the guarantees that Mr. Modi talks about, you know, Modi's guarantee is 420, that's what we are saying. He said, "I felt in this situation, when our democracy is facing a crisis, it is not the time for people to sit on the fence. I believe professionals have to step up and try to protect democracy."

"I felt the challenge is existential, fundamental to our democracy and the time for non-alignment is over," he said. The TMC leader also expressed confidence in the opposition party India Bloc coming to power. He said, “Mr Modi and BJP have already lost the story of 2024 general elections, and when the results come, they will lose the elections, the Indian coalition will form the government."
