Dharmapuri (Tamil Nadu) Chief Minister MK Stalin on Thursday said the ruling BJP at the Center has not "learned the lesson" from its continued electoral defeat in Tamil Nadu and accused it of not approving funds for key projects in the state.

Launching the extension of 'Makkaludan Mudhalvar' (CM with people) scheme to rural areas here, Stalin said that through it the government was striving to ensure that no one had any grievance.

Such committed work in favor of the people provokes jealousy and irritation in the opposition parties and that is why they try to give the state government a bad name through "propaganda" and "defamation," he stated.

The government is for all sections of the people without any discrimination whether they voted for the DMK or not. You cannot see the same magnanimity in others.

"The union (BJP) government has not learned lessons from its electoral defeat (2024 Lok Sabha polls) and its continuous defeats (in previous elections in the state)," Stalin said.

The Center has no "heart to allocate funds" for key Tamil Nadu projects like the Metro Rail Phase-II in Chennai and has not implemented any major projects in the state during the last 10 years of his government.

"On behalf of the people of Tamil Nadu, I say, they (the BJP regime at the Centre) should realize at least now that the central government should be a regime common to all the people, transcending likes and dislikes."

As far as the DMK is concerned, "we are with the people and the people are with us; this is the secret of our success and this is the secret of the growth of Tamil Nadu."

Launching the extension of 'Makkaludan Mudhalvar' scheme, he recalled initiatives like redressal of grievances of people narrated in thousands of petitions and creation of a new department 'Mudhalvarin Mugavari', by integrating services including CM helpline for grievance redressal.

So far, since the date of assumption of office on May 7, 2021, 66.25 lakh petitions out of a total of 68.30 lakh have been resolved and related issues have been addressed.

In Dharmapuri district alone, the detailed issues in as many as 72,438 petitions have been resolved. All of those petitions were submitted by people to government officials, he said.

Further, the 'Makkaludan Mudhalvar' scheme has already been implemented, under which petitions are received from people from their own cities by holding camps and issues are addressed within 30 days.

Issues found in 8.74 lakh petitions received in the said Makkaludan Mudhalvar camps have been resolved. In urban areas of Dharmapuri district, 3,107 petitions were received and 1,868 representations were addressed in 30 days.

Since the plan benefits the population, it has now been extended to rural areas as well. Initially, the scheme was implemented in areas under municipal corporations, municipalities and urban panchayats and in village panchayats adjacent to urban localities.

The prime minister also inaugurated 621 completed projects at an estimated cost of Rs 444.77 crore. In addition, he distributed social assistance to people, ushering in the distribution of assistance to 2,637 beneficiaries, worth a total of approximately Rs 56 million.

Stalin's announcements on new initiatives to be taken up for Dharmapuri district include improvement of infrastructure of Harur government hospital at a cost of Rs 51 crore, conversion of Harur to municipality from its present city panchayat status ( by adding areas under Mobiripatti and Doddampatti) and establishing a sub-agricultural extension center at Theerthamalai.
