New Delhi [India], Congress leader Rahul Gandhi will appear before a special court in Bengaluru, Karnataka on Friday in a defamation case filed by Karnataka's BJP unit.

Rahul Gandhi was seen at the Delhi airport on Friday morning, en route to Bengaluru to appear in the case.

In the complaint, the BJP had alleged that advertisements in local newspapers and Congress's 'false propaganda' have damaged the BJP's image ahead of the 2023 state assembly elections. The case was registered against Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC), Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Deputy CM DK Shivakumar and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi.

Earlier, the court had granted bail to Siddaramaiah and Shivakumar who appeared before it on June 1.

Siddaramaiah told ANI after getting bail, "I appeared before the judge as a legal guardian as directed by the court. I got bail. A private complaint was also filed against me, KPCC president and Rahul Gandhi. Rahul Gandhi Gandhi will also appear in the court." If.

Shivakumar termed the case as 'false' and said, "This is a false case on behalf of the Bharatiya Janata Party against me, Rahul Gandhi and Chief Minister Siddaramaiah."

In the May 2023 state assembly elections, the Congress party registered a landslide victory by securing 135 seats in the 224-member Karnataka Assembly, ousting the ruling BJP. BJP got 66 seats and Janata Dal-Secular got 19 seats.
