Thiruvananthapuram, A day after Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan started traveling to various foreign destinations, the BJP and Congress on Tuesday stepped up their attack against the CM and sought answers on whether it was a sponsored trip.

The parties urged Vijayan to disclose his source of income for international tours; Furthermore, the Congress alleged that the Chief Minister is shirking his responsibilities when crucial general elections are going on in the country and the state is facing a severe financial crisis.

The saffron party wanted to know who was the sponsor of the yatra and why C Vijayan and his son-in-law and Public Works Minister PA Mohammed Riyas did not hand over their official responsibilities to anyone.

Launching a strong attack on Vijayan, senior BJP leader V Muraleedharan alleged that the Chief Minister and his family were celebrating beach tourism when people collapsed and died in the scorching heat in Kerala.

Comparing the Marxist stalwart to the Roman emperor Nero (notorious for excessive extravagance), Muraleedharan urged CPI(M) general secretary Sitaram Yechury and state secretary MV Govindan to clarify their stand on the "grand yatra".Speaking to reporters, Muraleedharan asked, "If it is a sponsored visit, tell people who is sponsoring it. The Union Public Works Minister and the Public Works Minister will stay away from the state for 19 days. About the visit Why was no press statement issued?" Here.

He wanted to know what should be the stance of the Marxist party on foreign tours when the state is facing financial crisis.KPCC chief K Sudhakaran also criticized the CM over the trip and wanted to know why he was taking his family members along.

Sudhakaran asked, "I suspect it is a sponsored visit. Even though it is a sponsored visit, why is Vijayan keeping everything a secret? Why is he avoiding responsibility?"

However, CPI(M) stalwart and LDF convenor EP Jayarajan strongly rejected the opposition's criticism and supported the CM in the raging controversy.

He told reporters here, “CM Vijayan is a person who strictly follows rules and regulations in every matter. He has not violated any rules even in the case of his current foreign tour."

He said that the CM went abroad after giving information to the party and there is no need for him to share everything with the media.

The criticism from opposition parties came a day after Vijayan left for a foreign tour from the international airport in Kochi early Monday along with his close family members.

It was reported that the Chief Minister and his family will visit some eastern and middle-eastern countries during their more than two-week long tour.
