NEW DELHI: The BJP on Tuesday reiterated its allegation that BJD leader VK Pandian, during a campaign speech during a campaign speech by Putin, is seen with his left hand trembling behind the lecturer of Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, reiterating its allegation that the former IAS office BJD president was " Was controlling.

The BJP has been pushing the narrative during the ongoing elections that the Tamil-origin bureaucrat-turned-politician is "manipulating" the ailing Patnaik, 77, a charge both the leaders have repeatedly denied.

As BJP leaders, including Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, launched a fresh attack on the BJD to further his line of attack, Patnaik hit back.

“I believe that the BJP which is known for making non-issues into issues is discussing my hands,” he said in a video message. This definitely won't work.,

In the video, he is seen raising his left hand and looking at it while recording his message, in an apparent response to BJP leaders who posted visuals of his trembling hand.

Earlier, BJP leaders had shared clips of the speech in which Pandian, who was holding the microphone for the Chief Minister, is apparently seen pushing his hand behind the lectern to hide it from public view.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said on Twitter, “This is an extremely disturbing video. Shri VK Pandian ji is also controlling the movements of the hands of Shri Naveen Babu.

“I shudder to imagine the level of control a retired former bureaucrat from Tamil Nadu currently wields over the future of Odisha! The BJP is determined that I will hand over the reins of Odisha back to the people of the state.,

BJP's IT department head Amit Malviya said on Twitter, "Naveen Patnaik ji has had a memorable tenure as Chief Minister. But now he is unwell."

"However, it is unfortunate how he is being pushed to keep up appearances. Odisha realizes this. A dignified farewell would be a fitting tribute to the veteran politician and BJD in these elections.,

While addressing an election rally in Bhadrak Lok Sabha constituency on Tuesday, Home Minister Amit Shah also attacked Pandian without taking his name.

Shah said the BJP will ensure that the next chief minister is fluent in Odia language and understands the language, culture and tradition of the state.

He said, “Should a ‘Tamil Babu’ run the government from behind the scenes… by casting his vote in favor of the lotus symbol, a ‘public servant’ should be brought in to rule the state in place of an official. " Apparently a reference to Pandian, a close associate of Patnaik.

However, Patnaik has claimed that he is fit and fine, and has asked the BJP to stop lying.

Voting will be held in the last phase on June 1 for six Lok Sabha and 42 assembly seats in the state.
